We open the season with a Seahawk victory, to put it lightly. Let's just compare some stats real fast:
Seahawks
- Passing- 19/28 cmp, 191 yds, 2 TDs
- Rushing- (Lynch) 20 car, 110 yds, 2 TDs, (Harvin) 4 car, 41 yds
- Receiving- (Havin) 7 rec, 59 yds, (Miller) 3 rec, 42 yds
Packers
- Passing-23/33 cmp, 189 yds, 1 TD
- Rushing- (Starks) 7 car, 37 yds, (Lacy) 12 car, 34 yds
- Receiving- (Nelson) 9 rec, 89 yds, (Cobb) 6 rec, 58 yds, 1 TD
Not a huge difference in passing yards, but the Seahawks owned the running game. Marshawn Lynch looked really healthy, especially after plowing through 3 of the Packer's for a TD right before halftime. Not to forget Seattle's defense. Right tackle Bryan Bulaga's knee injury in the second quarter really hurt Rogers, who was sacked three times.
What is surprising to me is that the Packers looked really good in the first quarter. After recovering their own punt return and turning that into a touchdown it seemed they were in it to win it. Then in the second quarter after Wilson faked the run and passed to Lockette that resulted in a 33 yd TD, everything seemed to take a turn.
The Seahawks lead the league in the 2013 season in total defense, scoring defense and passing defense. It seemed that their defense fueled their Superbowl win against Peyton Manning's record setting Denver offense, but I feel like their offense against the Packers was a real standout. It will be interesting to see how they shape their 2014 season.
A lot of games to watch today! Football is back!
